Senior Mechanical Engineer – Robot Head

About the role

Rhoda AI is building next‑generation generalist intelligent robots. We need a senior mechanical engineer to own the design and integration of the robot’s head, the subsystem that houses cameras, speakers, microphones and electronics.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the mechanical architecture and packaging of the robot head within a tightly constrained envelope.
• Coordinate with industrial design, perception and cladding teams to balance aesthetic intent, sensor fields of view, thermal performance and serviceability.
• Manage mass properties, minimizing weight and controlling centre‑of‑gravity to meet neck‑actuation targets.
• Design stiff, stable sensor mounts with boresight retention under thermal and dynamic loads.
• Specify and drive the mechanical interface to the neck, including structural mounts, alignment features and electrical pass‑throughs.
• Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, tolerance stacks and BOMs for design reviews and manufacturing hand‑offs.

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field (M.S. preferred).
• 5+ years of mechanical design experience on complex electromechanical products such as robotics, consumer electronics or camera systems.
• Proven experience packaging sensors or dense electronics in thermally challenging, space‑constrained enclosures.
• Strong background in mass‑properties analysis and designing to strict mass/CG budgets.

Required skills

• Expert‑level CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape or similar).
• Precision optical/sensor mounting, alignment and tolerance analysis.
• Manufacturing process knowledge: machining, injection molding, die‑casting, sheet metal, 3D printing.
• GD&T (ASME Y14.5) applied to optical and precision assemblies.
• Hands‑on prototyping, testing and troubleshooting of hardware.
