Senior Maintenance Worker – Aviation Department

About the role

The City of Fort Worth Aviation Department is seeking a Senior Maintenance Worker to support operations at Spinks Airport. The position involves routine and emergency maintenance of airside and landside facilities, ensuring compliance with FAA standards and safe airport environments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mowing, grading, ruts filling, and herbicide application within the Aircraft Operations Area.
• Repair or replace taxiway and runway surfaces, windsocks, signage, lighting, and electrical fences.
• Operate snow and ice removal equipment on ramps, taxiways, and runways during inclement weather.
• Assemble/disassemble traffic control pylons, barriers, and assist with traffic control activities.
• Maintain and repair airport buildings, hangars, HVAC, insulation, and irrigation systems.
• Coordinate with vendors for quotes and service delivery, and complete daily operation reports.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least three years of general maintenance or construction experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass drug screen and physical exam.
• Full Movement Area Certification and FAA radio communication proficiency within three months of hire.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and on‑call emergency rotations.

Required skills

• Snow/ice removal equipment operation.
• Skid steer, zero‑turn mower, tractor, weed eater, and chainsaw operation.
• Herbicide and pesticide application.
• FAA‑approved aviation radio communication with Air Traffic Control.
• Heavy equipment operation for airside and landside surfaces.
• Electrical maintenance and fence repair.
• Preventive maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Basic construction skills such as concrete work and asphalt spreading.
