Senior Health Physicist / Radiation Safety Officer

About the role

The Senior Health Physicist / Radiation Safety Officer will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of radiation protection programs for North Wind Portage’s environmental remediation and waste management projects. This full‑time position is based in Knoxville, Tennessee and requires 25‑50% travel across the northeastern United States.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the designated Radiation Safety Officer, maintaining licenses, permits and compliance with NRC, DOE, EPA, OSHA and client regulations.
• Lead Final Status Survey planning, execution and closeout, managing multidisciplinary teams and ensuring data quality and regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical radiological support, including dose assessments, shielding evaluations, exposure modeling and risk analyses for decommissioning and remediation projects.
• Oversee occupational dose monitoring, incident investigations, training delivery and field operations support for radiological surveys and emergency response.

Required profile

• B.S. in Health Physics or related field with CHP certification and eligibility to serve as an RSO.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in health physics, radiation protection programs and NRC/DOE compliance (10 CFR 835).
• Proven experience in radiological decommissioning, remediation, waste management and Final Status Survey design and documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff, support business development and act as technical lead on projects.

Required skills

• RESRAD and MicroShield computer modeling.
• Implementation of MARSSIM guidelines and statistical evaluation of radiological data.
• Dosimetry program management and radiation safety training.
• Survey design, data validation, GIS integration and compliance reporting.
