Senior Director, Housing Disaster Resilience and Recovery

About the role

The Senior Director will lead Habitat’s Housing Disaster Resilience and Recovery (HDRR) program, strengthening housing resilience in communities affected by disasters and conflict. The role oversees a global team, shapes strategy, and coordinates funding and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the HDRR team, including performance evaluation and professional development.
• Develop and implement the HDRR strategic plan aligned with Habitat’s global strategy.
• Create standards, guidelines, and monitoring mechanisms for housing resilience and recovery.
• Collaborate with program teams, other departments, and external partners to integrate resilience into long‑term projects.
• Coordinate fundraising, donor reporting, and serve as spokesperson as needed.
• Lead research, advocacy, and community‑of‑practice initiatives on disaster risk reduction.
• Identify and pursue institutional and private funding opportunities.
• Oversee project compliance with grant requirements and manage the department budget.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, community resilience, or housing development.
• Proven track record managing complex, multi‑lateral funded projects.
• Experience working internationally in at least two Global South countries and collaborating with Global North offices.
• Commitment to gender and social inclusion in programs.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and cultural awareness skills.

Required skills

• Deep understanding of resilience frameworks, housing policy, humanitarian principles, International Humanitarian Law, and disaster risk reduction frameworks.
• Excellent project management abilities, including budgeting, planning, and reporting.
• Ability to analyze data, assess risks, and develop innovative solutions.

What we offer

• Competitive salary range of $134,200 – $199,600 USD per year.
