Senior Counsel – Regulatory

About the role

Mastercard’s Global Regulatory team is seeking an experienced attorney to join its US Regulatory group as Senior Counsel. Based in Purchase, New York, you will focus on U.S. banking and payments regulations, supporting the company’s strategy in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Mastercard’s regulatory strategy for U.S. banking and payments law changes.
• Advise US and global business teams on regulatory issues and product development.
• Liaise with state and federal regulators regarding licensing and compliance requirements.
• Guide prospective customers through membership applications and unique structural considerations.
• Analyze new federal and state legislation, partnering with internal and external advocacy teams.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise on cross‑functional projects, working with transaction lawyers, Treasury, Risk, and Franchise partners.
• Lead special projects related to banking and payments regulations and maintain industry knowledge of legislative trends.

Required profile

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• 7–10 years of experience handling U.S. regulatory matters, especially banking and payments law.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑impact environment.

Required skills

• Deep understanding of U.S. banking laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of U.S. payments regulatory framework.
