Senior Buyer

About the role

The Senior Buyer is responsible for acquiring materials, supplies, and services needed by the organization while securing the most favorable terms. This position works independently and collaboratively, maintaining vendor relationships and ensuring compliance with company purchasing policies.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain an up‑to‑date vendor database, track lead times, open purchases, commitments, and shortages.
• Purchase items from customer bills of material (BOM) to support RFQs, detailing cost, lead‑time, and minimum order quantities.
• Update and manage inventory data within the software system.
• Prepare reports, analyze data, and support decision‑making using available software tools.
• Ensure adherence to standard purchasing procedures and issue purchase orders and requisitions.
• Negotiate pricing, quantity discounts, and contract terms, including performance standards, warranties, and maintenance requirements.
• Perform additional tasks as needed to meet customer requirements.

Required profile

• High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of hands‑on purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with raw materials, steel, metal fabrication, or similar commodities is a plus.
• Must be a U.S. Person per EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15.
• Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of procurement principles, best practices, and supply‑chain management.
• Familiarity with inventory and database software.
