Senior Automation Engineer

About the role

Amazon’s Reliability & Maintenance Engineering team is looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to drive equipment reliability and performance across fulfillment centers. You will lead automation initiatives, troubleshoot complex control systems, and mentor junior engineers to ensure fast, accurate order fulfillment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide subject‑matter expertise for troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis of automation issues.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Software, and Safety teams to optimize material handling equipment (MHE) and implement projects.
• Maintain and troubleshoot PLC/PC controllers, industrial networks, motor control, servo and frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
• Monitor MHE metrics, analyze performance data, and partner with maintenance to resolve issues.
• Offer escalation support to automation engineers both during and after business hours, locally and remotely.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in automation engineering within a high‑throughput environment.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong analytical skills for performance monitoring and continuous improvement.

Required skills

• PLC and PC controller programming.
• Industrial networking (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus).
• Motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives.
• Electrical distribution and safety systems.
• SCADA systems and HMI development.
• Experience with conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, and print‑and‑apply equipment.
