Senior Associate Attorney – Cannabis Law

About the role

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is seeking a motivated Senior Associate Attorney to join its Phoenix office and help grow the firm’s cannabis practice. This is a fast‑track opportunity for an attorney with a strong regulatory background to take on significant responsibilities and a diverse caseload from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Advise adult‑use recreational and medical cannabis clients on state and local regulatory and administrative code requirements.
• Prepare, manage, and submit cannabis license applications, renewals, amendments, and related filings.
• Represent corporate and business interests in entity structuring, governance, transactions, and ongoing compliance.
• Counsel clients on real‑estate matters affecting cannabis facilities, including zoning, land use, leasing, site selection, permitting, and operational restrictions.
• Monitor changes in cannabis laws, regulations, agency guidance, and administrative procedures, and advise on business impacts.
• Coordinate with business owners, investors, landlords, regulators, and other stakeholders to support compliant operations.
• Draft and review legal documents, policies, and agreements related to licensing, operations, real estate, and compliance.

Required profile

• Admission to the Arizona Bar in good standing.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience handling regulatory and administrative code matters in the cannabis industry.
• Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
