Senior Analyst, Platform Underwriting

About the role

We are seeking a seasoned underwriter with deep experience in payments, due diligence, and financial analysis to join our Platforms Underwriting team in Atlanta. The role focuses on underwriting applications for platform customers such as Payment Facilitators, Marketplaces, and Staged Digital Wallet Operators.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct business model analysis and holistic risk assessments for various platform models (ISVs, Payfacs, Marketplaces, Staged Digital Wallets, MORs).
• Perform customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence, including KYC, KYB, PEP, sanctions, and adverse media screening.
• Analyze P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements of high‑risk platform merchants.
• Prepare persuasive summaries for internal stakeholders and risk committees, recommending mitigants and balanced decisions.
• Represent the underwriting team in customer calls alongside Sales or Account Managers and approve credit submissions within authority.
• Identify operational issues, propose improvements to the merchant onboarding experience, and mentor junior team members.

Required profile

• Proficient understanding of Checkout’s Platform product offering and ability to classify different platform models.
• Expert‑level financial statement analysis and credit exposure assessment.
• Strong judgment balancing risk and reward, with effective escalation management.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication, capable of presenting complex information clearly.
• Passion for operational improvement and a customer‑first mindset.

Required skills

• 6+ years of financial analysis or merchant underwriting experience.
• 5+ years of due‑diligence, merchant underwriting, or related work.
• Subject‑matter expertise in AML/CTF, KYC/KYB, and underwriting within payments or fintech.
• Experience mentoring or coaching junior colleagues is desirable.
