Senior Accountant

About the role

The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is seeking a detail‑oriented, self‑motivated Senior Accountant to join our hybrid team in Maumee (or other Ohio locations) or Canton, MI. This full‑time position offers a rewarding career with competitive benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and back‑up bi‑weekly multi‑state payroll processing.
• Maintain up‑to‑date employee payroll records and post payroll journal entries to the general ledger.
• Audit benefit withholdings with HR against provider invoices.
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies.
• Ensure timesheet compliance with the employee handbook and tax compliance across states and municipalities.
• Verify 401(k) funding and calculate employer match contributions.
• Perform month‑end and year‑end account reconciliations and prepare schedules.
• Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports.
• Assist accounts payable clerk with overflow work and identify departmental efficiencies.
• Collaborate with CFO and Controller on special projects and improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with solid understanding of GAAP.
• Payroll processing certification preferred.
• 4+ years of relevant accounting experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and experienced with advanced accounting systems (Deltek Vision or VantagePoint preferred).
• Ability to work well in a team, be independently effective and meet deadlines.
• Detail‑oriented problem solver with strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills.
