Section Head, Emergency Medicine Physician

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Section Head for its Emergency Medicine services, overseeing both the OMC‑Westbank Emergency Department and the Marrero Freestanding Emergency Department. The leader will drive clinical quality, safety, throughput and patient experience across two high‑volume, high‑acuity sites.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic physician leadership for a hospital‑based ED and a freestanding ED, ensuring safe, efficient, high‑quality care delivery.
• Oversee a multidisciplinary team of Emergency Medicine physicians and Advanced Practice Providers, handling recruitment, onboarding, performance assessment and professional development.
• Partner with nursing and quality leadership to improve patient safety, regulatory compliance, satisfaction and quality metrics.
• Collaborate with nursing, ancillary services and operations to optimize patient flow and interdisciplinary communication.
• Support financial stewardship by understanding healthcare finance, reimbursement, staffing models and productivity, contributing to service‑line growth and sustainability.
• Maintain dual reporting to Emergency Services Service Line Leadership and the Vice President of Medical Affairs, aligning site performance with system strategy.

Required profile

• MD or DO, board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine, licensed and credentialed to maintain an active clinical practice.
• Proven experience in physician leadership, overseeing multidisciplinary teams, and driving quality and operational improvement in emergency care settings.
