RN PRN – Thoracic Surgery Stepdown

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is seeking a PRN Registered Nurse for its J5-2 Thoracic Surgery Stepdown Unit. This fast‑paced unit provides care for patients undergoing complex thoracic procedures, including esophagectomies, thoracotomies, and heart‑failure related interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care on a rotating day/night schedule (7:00 AM–7:30 PM / 7:00 PM–7:30 AM).
• Manage advanced postoperative equipment such as chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, jejunostomy tubes, Jackson‑Pratt drains, and patient‑controlled analgesics.
• Participate in a residency core curriculum and collaborate with a success coach to continuously improve clinical skills.
• Document patient care accurately and respond promptly to any identified health risks.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current RN licensure in the state.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within the first year of hire.
• New graduate RN or less than one year of RN experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Required skills

• Current RN license.
• BLS certification (American Heart Association).
• ACLS certification (American Heart Association).
• Ability to perform and monitor chest tube, NG tube, jejunostomy, and PCA management.
