Retail Construction Project Manager

About the role

David Nice Builders is seeking a Retail Construction Project Manager to own the full lifecycle of retail construction projects, from pre‑construction through close‑out. The role blends office‑based planning with frequent field visits and client meetings, requiring the ability to keep projects on schedule and within budget under tight timelines.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with estimating, review plans, flag scope items and develop competitive bids.
• Lead contract review, translate requirements into subcontract scopes, and ensure all permits, insurance and licensing are in place before mobilization.
• Build and maintain project schedules in MS Project, conduct weekly updates and three‑week look‑aheads with the superintendent.
• Support the field superintendent by staying reachable, providing written direction, and overseeing daily reports, safety talks and issue resolution.
• Manage budgets, weekly PM reports, RFIs, submittals, change orders and ensure quality control throughout construction.
• Coordinate close‑out activities, produce the close‑out binder within 45 days and attend final punch walks.

Required profile

• Typically 5+ years of construction management experience, with retail projects a strong plus.
• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects ranging from $500 K to $15 MM.
• Strong commercial judgment, composure under pressure and excellent written and verbal communication.
• Willingness to travel to job sites and client meetings (1‑3 times per project).
