Research Support Specialist

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Health seeks a full‑time Research Support Specialist to assist multidisciplinary studies on firefighter and first responder health and safety. You will work closely with Dr. Caban‑Martinez, investigators, and community partners to implement research protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Implement study protocols, recruit and enroll participants, obtain informed consent, and schedule follow‑up visits.
• Collect, record, enter, and manage data using REDCap; perform quality‑assurance checks and generate reports.
• Coordinate field‑based activities at fire departments and other sites across Florida and nationally.
• Maintain specimen inventories, assist with biospecimen processing, and ensure compliance with IRB and HIPAA regulations.
• Prepare study manuals, grant documentation, and materials for publications and presentations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, health sciences, epidemiology, nursing, or a related field.
• At least one year of experience in research, clinical research, or community‑based studies (preferred but not mandatory).
• Ability to travel locally, statewide, and nationally; flexible to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency with REDCap database development and management.
• Data collection, entry, and quality‑control techniques for longitudinal cohort studies.
• Experience with biospecimen handling and phlebotomy (preferred).
• Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating with community partners and fire service personnel.
