Research Support Specialist (A)

About the role

The University of Miami Department of Public Health Sciences seeks a full‑time Research Support Specialist to assist multidisciplinary studies on firefighter and first responder health and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Implement research protocols, recruit participants, obtain consent, schedule visits and maintain study documentation.
• Develop, test and maintain REDCap databases, conduct data‑quality checks, generate reports and support dataset preparation for analysis.
• Coordinate field‑based data collection at fire departments and community sites across Florida and nationally, including specimen handling and inventory.
• Serve as primary contact for community partners, organize meetings, and assist investigators with grant preparation and manuscript development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biological or social sciences or related field.
• At least one year of experience in research, clinical or community‑based studies; experience with human subjects, longitudinal cohorts or biospecimen collection is preferred.
• Ability to travel locally, statewide and nationally, and work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency with REDCap database creation, management and data‑quality procedures.
• Experience in data collection, entry, and analysis for epidemiologic research.
• Knowledge of phlebotomy and biospecimen handling (preferred).
