Research Engineer IV – Multi-Agent Autonomy

About the role

The Texas A&M University System Offices are seeking a Research Engineer IV to lead the design and implementation of core autonomous behaviors for multi‑agent systems at the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex. This senior‑level position focuses on integrating heterogeneous fleets—including tactical UTVs, military‑grade UGVs, UAVs, and autonomous helicopters—into coordinated, real‑world operations.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and develop complex software stacks for multi‑agent coordination and shared situational awareness.
• Produce prototype code and innovative algorithms to accelerate development cycles and overcome technical bottlenecks.
• Generate high‑performance, efficient code in Python and C++ for real‑time autonomous operations.
• Lead system experimentation and field testing on the RELLIS campus’s off‑road terrain.
• Provide technical oversight to integrate diverse subsystems across the BCDC autonomy stacks.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in robotics, computer science, or a related field.
• Proven experience designing and deploying autonomous systems in complex environments.
• Strong background in multi‑agent coordination, robotics, and control algorithms.
• Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and guide junior engineers.
