Research Economist

About the role

The Texas Real Estate Research Center seeks a Research Economist to lead applied research on real‑estate asset classes. Reporting to the research director, you will set an annual agenda, produce rigorous analyses, and share findings with industry, government, and academic audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Propose, design, and execute research projects aligned with the Center’s agenda, using advanced econometric and statistical methods.
• Produce written outputs (blog posts, articles, technical reports) and deliver presentations to stakeholders, media, and policy makers.
• Maintain data integrity, ensure objectivity, and monitor Texas‑wide economic and real‑estate trends.

Required profile

• PhD in economics, real estate, or a related discipline.
• At least seven years of applied economic or market‑research experience in industry, consulting, or policy‑focused academia.
• Proven ability to communicate complex results to diverse audiences and manage multiple concurrent projects.

Required skills

• Proficiency with analytical software such as R, Python, or SAS.
• Experience with advanced research methods (econometrics, time‑series, diff‑in‑diff, synthetic control, surveys).
