Research Associate – Wild Pig Management

About the role

The Texas A&M Center for Grazinglands and Ranch Management seeks a Research Associate to support projects focused on exclusion fencing and mitigation of wild pig damage across Texas. The role involves extensive field work, stakeholder interaction, and data analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Identify study sites, collect baseline data, and install/maintain corn feeders and exclusion fences.
• Monitor animal activity using remotely triggered cameras, review imagery, and enter data.
• Prepare reports and coordinate with landowners, ranchers, biologists, and project partners.
• Travel to multiple study locations throughout Texas and operate farm equipment, ATVs/UTVs as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least two years of related experience.
• Strong work ethic, self‑motivation, and ability to work independently in remote, adverse conditions.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, detail‑oriented and capable of multitasking.

Required skills

• Data entry and technical report writing.
• Use of remotely triggered cameras for wildlife monitoring.
• Operation of 4‑wheel‑drive vehicles, ATVs/UTVs, and farm machinery.
• Basic fence construction and field equipment handling.
