Research Assistant in Entomology and Pest Management

About the role

The Texas A&M University‑Kingsville Citrus Center seeks a Research Assistant to support independent and supervisory research activities in entomology, pest management, horticulture, and related fields. This grant‑funded, 12‑month position involves experimental design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing, planning, and executing laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments.
• Collect, record, and maintain data sets from trials and support undergraduate/graduate students.
• Perform statistical and technical analysis of experimental results and prepare progress reports.
• Contribute to writing reports, proposals, outreach articles, and scientific manuscripts.
• Operate, maintain, and repair research equipment; manage purchasing and financial records for project supplies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences, biology, entomology, horticulture, pest management, plant science or related field.
• Three years of relevant lab and field research experience.
• Ability to work independently, multitask, and collaborate with students and staff.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and pesticide applicator license.

Required skills

• Statistical analysis and data analysis using computer software.
• Laboratory techniques: PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid extraction.
• Operation of microscopes and other research equipment.
• Microsoft Office suite for data presentation and documentation.
