Remote Long-Term Care Medical Expert Reviewer (MD/DO)

About the role

Maximus is looking for a board‑certified physician (MD or DO) with expertise in long‑term care to work remotely as an independent contractor. The reviewer will assess VA patient encounters to determine whether the clinical decisions met the applicable standard of care.

Key responsibilities

• Complete required online training using personal computer.
• Access and review medical records through the VA electronic medical record system.
• Prepare written case reviews in Microsoft Word.
• Communicate via Maximus’s secure email system and handle encrypted messages.
• Accept or decline assigned cases within 24 hours and submit reviews within three to five business days; expedited reviews within 24 hours when needed.

Required profile

• Active MD or DO license in any U.S. state.
• Board certification in long‑term care.
• At least five years of long‑term care experience after training.
• National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
• Minimum of 20 hours of direct patient care per month.
• Not a VA employee, active‑duty military member, or provider in a military facility.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
