Registered Sanitarian – Field Inspections (Texas)

About the role

The Registered Sanitarian conducts field inspections of retail food establishments, public swimming pools, spas, and interactive water features across Texas. Working primarily from a home office with about 50% travel, the role provides on‑site education, problem‑solving and customer service while ensuring compliance with Texas Food Establishment Rules, the 2017 FDA Food Code, and State Standards for Public Swimming Pools and Spas.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and schedule inspections, prioritize visits and travel to client sites using a personal vehicle.
• Perform on‑site evaluations of food establishments and water facilities, verifying compliance with relevant codes and standards.
• Provide immediate guidance on corrective actions, document findings with photos, and generate electronic reports via iPad.
• Track corrective actions, schedule re‑inspections, and confirm resolution of deficiencies.
• Respond to client inquiries, maintain professional communication, and promote Bureau Veritas services.
• Collaborate with the Sanitation Services team to share findings, develop SOPs and improve program consistency.

Required profile

• High‑school diploma or GED (minimum); associate degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Food Science or related field preferred.
• 3–5 years of field experience conducting food‑service or pool inspections.
• Registered Sanitarian (Texas) or REHS/RS credential and Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and ability to pass background checks.

Required skills

• iPad / mobile inspection software for data entry, photo capture and electronic form completion.
• Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook.
• Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Photoshop for document handling and basic image editing.
• Digital imaging skills, including use of digital cameras and photo‑editing.
• Technical writing for clear inspection reports and correction notices.
