Registered Nurse - Radiation Oncology

About the role

Aoncology is hiring a Registered Nurse for its Woodlands Cancer Institute. The nurse acts as the primary contact for patients, caregivers and the onsite cancer care team and supports physicians and radiation therapists in delivering radiation care. The pay range is $31.93 - $48.44.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact with patients, caregivers and the cancer care team, and coordinate care among providers, making referrals to social work, home care, hospice and other services.
• Assess patients for therapy side effects, provide nursing interventions, and handle new patient intake, education and support.
• May collect blood specimens and start IVs for CT scans, and help schedule consultations, simulations, follow-ups, lab tests, x-rays and scans.
• Schedule radio-biologic therapy and assist the MD in these procedures.
• Document treatments accurately in OncoEMR and ARIA, capture charges correctly, and follow ID policy for each patient.
• Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and the treatment plan, and handle telephone triage.
• Assist with inventory, restocking and purchasing of supplies, place stock in storage areas, and autoclave XRT-specific instruments.
• Attend annual safety/OSHA and mandatory staff meetings, train new employees, and comply with privacy and safety laws.

Required profile

• Associate in Nursing or BSN required.
• Current RN license in the state of employment; BLS certification required.
• 1-3 years of experience; radiation oncology experience preferred.
• Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site environment, with occasional overtime and weekend shifts depending on location.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Experience with Aria or another EMR system preferred.
• Good command of English; second language is an asset.
