Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical – Night Shift

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to provide night‑shift care on a medical‑surgical unit. The role involves leading patient care using the nursing process, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring high‑quality outcomes while respecting cultural diversity.

Key responsibilities

• Apply the nursing process to deliver safe and effective patient care during night hours.
• Assess learning needs of patients and families and implement appropriate teaching strategies.
• Communicate, delegate, and manage nursing team resources, acting as a leader on the interdisciplinary team.
• Utilize data and evidence‑based information to drive improvements and achieve optimal outcomes.
• Adapt communication and care approaches to respect patient privacy and cultural preferences.
• Perform additional related duties as required to support unit goals.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school (required); Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
• Current RN license in the state of practice and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certification in a clinical specialty area is a plus.
• Proficiency with computers, software, and web‑based applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time‑management abilities.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently.
