Radiation Safety Assistant

About the role

The Radiation Safety Assistant supports safe and compliant use of radioactive materials and ionizing radiation across clinical, research, and operational settings at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily activities of Radiation Safety Technologists and assist ARSO, RSO, and MHPs in policy development.
• Receive, survey, inventory, deliver, and ship radioactive material to end users.
• Perform audits of radiation laboratories, surveys, bioassays, and air sampling.
• Collect, package, process, monitor, and dispose of radioactive waste, maintaining receipts.
• Provide in‑service training for staff and non‑staff users of ionizing radiation.
• Support interventional radiology procedures, nuclear medicine, and radiology teams.

Required profile

• Associate's degree in engineering, biological sciences or related field with two years relevant experience, OR four years relevant experience.
• Valid state driver’s license (CDL with hazmat endorsement may be required).

Required skills

• Radiation detection equipment calibration.
• Radiation safety auditing and compliance.
• Radioactive waste handling and disposal procedures.
• Use of Level A personal protective equipment.
• Operation of material handling equipment and ability to lift up to 100 lb.
