Qualified Elevator Inspector – Harrisburg, PA

About the role

Bureau Veritas, a world leader in testing, inspection and certification services, is seeking a Qualified Elevator Inspector to conduct trade‑specific inspections on elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways and other lift equipment in Harrisburg, PA. The role ensures that construction, retrofit, repair and operation comply with applicable codes, drawings, specifications and contract documents.

Key responsibilities

• Perform trade‑specific code and quality‑control inspections on elevator and lift equipment.
• Detect defects or faults in installations, maintenance or operation and recommend remedial measures per jurisdictional requirements.
• Read and interpret equipment operation plans, blueprints and schematics.
• Use standard testing devices and methods to verify equipment meets required standards.
• Coordinate work schedules with service companies, technicians and property managers to maximize efficiency.
• Conduct all work in accordance with established safety practices.

Required profile

• Current QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector) certification or at least five years of elevator industry experience performing inspections, service, repairs or testing.
• Engineering education may substitute for two years of field experience.
• Knowledge of installation, repair and maintenance of electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators and moving walks.
• Understanding of mechanical and electrical principles applicable to elevators.
• Familiarity with the American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators and related jurisdictional requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and code documents.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using Microsoft Access.
