About the role
The Public Works Inspector conducts trade‑specific inspections of municipal infrastructure—including roads, bridges, sidewalks, drainage systems, water‑treatment facilities, and wastewater conveyances—across a defined Texas service area. The role requires extensive travel to field sites (up to 75% of work time) and ensures compliance with a range of state and federal regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Perform inspections of municipal infrastructure and verify compliance with Texas Administrative Code, TDLR standards, Texas Construction Codes, AASHTO bridge specifications, and EPA water‑quality regulations.
- Assist the public and contractors with permit requirements and provide guidance on regulatory matters.
- Prepare written and electronic inspection reports, correction notices, and other documentation.
- Support the inspection‑management team with business‑development activities and client relations.
- Travel to assigned field sites throughout the service area, often covering 1,000–5,000 sq mi.
Required profile
- High School Diploma; Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of field inspection experience on construction‑related projects.
- ICC Commercial/Residential certifications and a State of Texas Plumbing Inspector license.
- Experience in QA/QC and project management.
- Current valid driver’s license and strong customer‑service/problem‑solving abilities.
Required skills
- Knowledge of Texas Administrative Code compliance.
- Familiarity with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) standards.
- Understanding of Texas Construction Codes and AASHTO bridge specifications.
- Experience with EPA water‑quality regulations.
- QA/QC inspection techniques.
