About the role
The Public Information Officer will work in the Social Media Section of the Outreach Division, supporting the Department of Global Communications in delivering trusted UN information worldwide. Reporting to the Head of the Social Media Section, the incumbent will manage multilingual social media strategies and ensure effective outreach on UN platforms.
Key responsibilities
- Implement social media activities to promote priority issues and major events.
- Monitor, engage and manage communities on UN global social platforms, reporting progress and taking follow‑up actions.
- Oversee daily messaging to increase visibility of the Organization’s work.
- Analyze social media impact and trends, advising management on responses.
- Develop and execute social media strategies for campaigns aligned with global communications guidance.
- Produce or supervise creation of social media assets in English and Hindi, handling research, planning, drafting and clearances.
- Maintain professional relationships with platforms, digital agencies and UN partners, supporting special events.
- Act as focal point for social media issues, providing guidance to senior officials and responding to inquiries.
Required profile
- Professionalism: deep knowledge of communications tools, ability to analyse diverse information, and manage global social media outreach.
- Communication: clear written and oral skills, ability to tailor messages to varied audiences.
- Planning & Organising: set clear goals, prioritize activities, allocate resources and monitor risks.
Required skills
- Social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) management.
- Content creation and production for multilingual social media assets.
