Product Manager, Membership Growth and Development

About the role

ProPublica, an independent nonprofit newsroom, is seeking a creative Product Manager to lead the evolution of its digital fundraising and membership systems. You will partner closely with the membership team and cross‑functional product and audience groups to shape the reader journey from first donation to long‑term engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Connect product strategy, roadmap, and daily operations for digital fundraising and membership platforms, acting as the primary product voice for donors.
• Translate fundraising goals into product priorities, success metrics, and technical decisions, balancing short‑term optimization with long‑term improvements.
• Collaborate with engineering, design, and data teams to define outcomes, write clear requirements, and deliver reliable, scalable products.
• Define and track key metrics, orchestrate data systems, and regularly report progress alongside an analyst.
• Use data‑driven product judgment to improve acquisition, conversion, average gift size, recurring gifts, and retention.
• Maintain and evolve the health of membership revenue systems, including donation platforms, payment processing, messaging, personalization, and experimentation tools.
• Evaluate third‑party vendors and platforms, deciding when to build, buy, or integrate new solutions.

Required profile

• 3+ years of product management experience, preferably in consumer or membership contexts.
• Proven ability to translate strategic goals into actionable product roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience defining metrics and communicating insights.
• Excellent collaboration skills across engineering, design, and data teams.
