PRN Patient Services Specialist

About the role

The Patient Services Specialist (PSS) provides front-end patient support at Messino Cancer Centers, managing patient intake, scheduling, medical records and financial transactions while ensuring accurate documentation and excellent customer service. Duties may vary by office size, layout and staffing model, with cross-coverage across functional stations as needed. The position is part-time (0% travel).

Key responsibilities

• Patient intake and registration: greet patients and caregivers, check them in per clinic policy, verify identity, collect payments and co-pays, issue receipts and respond to inbound calls.
• Scheduling and physician support: schedule appointments, manage physician schedules, assign new patients to clinicians, contact patients about missed appointments and relay urgent information to physicians.
• Medical records: maintain patient charts in the EMR and billing systems, process faxes and documents, and handle medical record requests in line with HIPAA.
• Financial transactions: post payments, prepare daily close documentation and deposits, balance cash drawers and notify the Financial Counselor of billing impacts.
• Compliance and flexibility: comply with federal, state and local regulations and AON policies, cover absences and vacations, assist in onboarding new staff, and work at alternate AON locations as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma; associate degree preferred.
• At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting; physician office experience preferred.
• Customer service focus, attention to detail and multitasking ability.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, critical thinking and organizational skills.
• Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
