Principal Python Engineer (Modeling & Simulation)

About the role

As a Principal Python Engineer you will design and build the Python services, pipelines, and tooling that power Code Metal’s next‑generation wargaming and decision‑support platform. You will create backend services and APIs that integrate multiple simulators, manage data, and deliver results to analysts, model developers, and government stakeholders. The role requires strong architectural authority and mentorship across the Modeling & Simulation team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) that orchestrate mission‑level simulation runs and expose outputs.
• Build distributed, cloud‑scale infrastructure that runs simulations on workstations, on‑premises hardware, and cloud compute while preserving reproducibility and provenance.
• Develop scenario‑generation, Monte‑Carlo, sensitivity‑analysis, and campaign‑evaluation workflows.
• Create data ingestion, normalization, and analysis pipelines to turn raw simulation output into decision‑ready insight.
• Gather requirements from government stakeholders and domain experts and translate them into clear software designs.

Required profile

• 10+ years of professional experience delivering enterprise‑level Python software.
• Proven ability to gather stakeholder requirements and produce robust software designs.
• Experience with strong SDLC practices: code review, testing, CI/CD, release management, and build systems.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
