Principal Medical Officer

About the role

The Department of Operational Support is seeking a Principal Medical Officer to serve as Deputy Director within the Division of Healthcare Management and Occupational Safety and Health (DHMOSH). Based in New York, you will lead senior staff, ensure high‑quality UN healthcare services, and support the overall DOS strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee quality control mechanisms for DHMOSH activities and monitor UN healthcare facilities.
• Prepare recommendations to improve medical emergency response for UN personnel and dependents.
• Brief and advise senior leadership on health‑related matters before internal committees and UN bodies.
• Represent DHMOSH in DOS, OSO, Crisis Operations Group and external meetings.
• Manage day‑to‑day clinical and medico‑administrative operations, including planning, budgeting, reporting, performance management and audit responses.

Required profile

• Medical degree with extensive experience in healthcare management and occupational safety.
• Proven leadership experience supervising senior teams in an international or multilateral environment.
• Strong understanding of UN health policies, staff counselling, and public‑health services.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills for briefing senior officials and committees.
