Principal Geotechnical Engineer – Tailings Engineer of Record

About the role

BGC Engineering is looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer who will serve as the Engineer of Record for tailings dams. The role provides technical leadership on large‑scale tailings and mine‑waste projects and supports business development across the U.S. mining sector.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and review tailings and mine‑waste projects from investigation through design, construction, operation and closure.
• Act as project director and technical lead, authoring and reviewing reports and presenting to clients, regulators and review boards.
• Develop new business opportunities, write proposals and participate in client meetings.
• Mentor and supervise junior to senior staff, and organize field programs including site investigations and dam safety inspections.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
• More than 20 years of relevant experience and registration as a Professional Engineer in the United States.
• Strong leadership, analytical and project‑management abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
