Preschool Teacher Assistant

About the role

The Preschool Teacher Assistant supports children aged 2 to 2½ years in a nurturing, play‑based environment. Working under the Preschool Director and Lead Teacher, the assistant helps foster curiosity, love of learning, and safe exploration both indoors and outdoors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain safety and supervise children during all activities, ensuring welfare and non‑punitive behavior management.
• Assist with daily operations, including snack/lunch preparation, classroom clean‑up, and implementation of age‑appropriate provocations.
• Participate in staff meetings, special events, and professional development activities.
• Communicate with parents as needed and support emergency response planning.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; 18+ years old.
• College coursework related to early childhood education preferred (minimum 6 ECE units).
• Pass fingerprint clearance, TB test, pre‑employment physical, and provide measles and pertussis immunizations.
• Willingness to obtain CPR, Mandated Reporter, and Sexual Harassment certifications.

Required skills

• Understanding and implementation of Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP).
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain confidentiality.
• Strong communication skills in English with children, parents, and staff.
