About the role
The Marquette City Police Department is hiring Police Recruits for upcoming academy sessions. Selected candidates will be paid as full‑time employees while they attend the Northern Michigan University Police Academy, with the possibility of joining the department as a Patrol Officer after successful graduation.
Key responsibilities
- Attend the Northern Michigan University Police Academy and complete all required training and testing.
- Learn and practice the duties of an entry‑level patrol officer, including enforcing state laws and local ordinances.
- Patrol assigned areas on foot, in a vehicle or on a bicycle to prevent crime, maintain public order and make arrests when necessary.
Required profile
- At least 21 years old by the end of the academy.
- U.S. citizen with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license and no felony convictions.
- Ability to pass the entrance interview, background screening and all academy assessments.
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with the public, officials and fellow officers.
Required skills
- Basic computer proficiency.
