Plumbing Inspector & Plans Examiner

About the role

The position involves performing technical inspections to enforce municipal codes and ordinances related to building construction, alterations, and repairs, with a focus on ensuring plumbing code compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct plumbing inspections for compliance with national, state, and local codes, including septic systems, drainage fields, dry wells, grease interceptors, water piping and waste lines.
• Participate in meetings with contractors, developers, architects, and engineers before and during construction activities.
• Investigate and resolve complaints about code violations, issue corrective instructions, and perform re‑inspections.
• Inspect work against approved blueprints and report violations; represent the city at court hearings when required.
• Consult with contractors and other stakeholders to interpret and apply plumbing standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent plus at least five years of construction experience in a supervisory capacity.
• Extensive knowledge of the Florida Building Code and related construction regulations.
• Proven ability to detect defective workmanship, read plans, and maintain accurate records.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with the public, contractors, and internal teams.
• Ability to make independent, merit‑based decisions and handle challenging situations diplomatically.

Required skills

• Certified Plumbing Inspector (Florida)
• Certified Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician license (Miami‑Dade or Broward County)
• State‑certified Electrical Contractor license
• Professional Engineer license (Florida) – may substitute for part of the experience requirement
• Proficiency with computer software applications used for inspection reporting
