About the role
The Pilot Plant Technician works the third shift (10 pm – 6 am) in 3M's St. Paul pilot plant. The role supports experimental, prototype and production runs, ensuring equipment operates safely and meets 3M quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and maintain pilot‑plant equipment, primarily extruders, with additional support for injection molding presses and converting lines.
- Perform equipment changeovers, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting to keep production running.
- Conduct quality testing, interpret results, and adjust machinery to meet specifications.
- Document processes, generate reports, and maintain accurate production records.
- Identify defects during manufacturing, implement corrective actions, and contribute continuous‑improvement ideas.
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow all safety protocols.
Required profile
- High School diploma/GED (or higher) completed before start date.
- At least one year of experience in a manufacturing, pilot‑plant, or laboratory setting within private, public, government, or military environments.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and independent problem‑solving ability.
