Pilot Plant Technician – 3rd Shift

About the role

Join 3M’s innovative pilot plant team in St. Paul, MN, working the 3rd shift (10 pm – 6 am). You will set up, operate, and maintain pilot‑scale equipment while supporting experimental and production runs in a safe, high‑quality environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and operate experimental, prototype, or production equipment, primarily extruders, with additional support for injection molding presses and converting lines.
• Perform general maintenance, equipment setup, and changeovers.
• Locate defects during manufacturing, adjust machinery, and implement continuous‑improvement ideas.
• Conduct quality testing, interpret results, and provide feedback to meet specifications.
• Maintain accurate documentation, produce reports, and ensure a safe working environment.

Required profile

• High School diploma/GED (or higher) completed and verified prior to start.
• At least one combined year of experience in a manufacturing, pilot‑plant, or laboratory setting (private, public, government, or military).
• Willingness to work weekends, overtime, and occasional shift flex for training or production coverage.

Required skills

• Experience with extrusion equipment.
