Pharmacy Technician – Sterile Products Specialist

About the role

This position is part of the inpatient pharmacy team at Ochsner Health, working directly with pharmacists to prepare and deliver sterile admixture products for adult and pediatric inpatient areas. The role requires strict adherence to aseptic techniques and pharmacy safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists and other technicians to maintain an efficient medication distribution system.
• Accurately prepare sterile admixture products, including IV snap‑ons, large‑volume parenterals, syringes, chemotherapy, and bulk‑manufactured items.
• Perform mathematical calculations for product preparation and operate specialized pharmacy equipment such as IV safety and barcode software.
• Chart scheduled maintenance, conduct daily to terminal cleaning of the IV room, and ensure sterility protocols are followed.
• Adapt communication and service approach to the specific patient population and remain current with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 months experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Current Pharmacy Technician Certification issued by the state Board of Pharmacy.
• Sterile Product Preparation Certification (or 5 years IV production experience with certification obtained within 90 days of hire).
• Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Working knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics, sterile technique, and safety guidelines for handling chemotherapy.
