Payroll Specialist – Full‑time, Aberdeen, NC

About the role

The Payroll Specialist will manage the end‑to‑end payroll process for hourly and salaried staff across multiple locations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable regulations. This role partners closely with HR to support benefits, reporting, and continuous process improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Process full payroll cycles (weekly, bi‑weekly, semi‑monthly) for all employees, including new site locations.
• Maintain and audit payroll data, general‑ledger entries, bank reconciliations, tax withholdings, garnishments and benefit deductions.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax laws, wage‑hour regulations and unemployment insurance requirements.
• Prepare quarterly and annual filings such as tax remittances, W‑2s, 1099s, and support audits and regulatory reporting.
• Partner with HR to develop and implement payroll and benefits process improvements, SOPs and internal controls.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum five years of progressive payroll experience in a multi‑location environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of payroll tax and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organizational abilities with a high level of confidentiality.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience using payroll/HRIS systems.
• Advanced Excel skills for large‑volume data processing.
• Understanding of general‑ledger payroll accounting.
