Patient Care Nurse Assistant – Cardiovascular Stepdown

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works on a 25‑bed Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit, providing hands‑on care to cardiac patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. This full‑time day shift supports both stepdown and med‑surg overflow patients in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and record vital signs, weight, and pulse oximetry.
• Assist patients with personal care, activities of daily living, and patient transfers/transport.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing, dressing changes, and apply/remove external monitoring devices.
• Remove urinary Foley catheters and maintain a clean, orderly patient room.
• Report abnormal physical, mental, or emotional findings to the supervising RN.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (or obtain during new‑hire period).
• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman, Combat Medic, or Medical Service Technician considered.
• Preferred: State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification.
• Physical ability to lift/move patients, stand and walk for extended periods, and meet medium work physical demands.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification (preferred).
• Ability to perform patient care tasks such as vital sign collection, dressing changes, and equipment application.
