Patient Access Representative / Medical Assistant – Urgent Care

About the role

This position performs appointment scheduling and medical assistant functions within an urgent‑care clinic. The employee provides direct, individualized patient care under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider and helps implement health‑care service delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to patients, guests, and family members.
• Gather and verify patient forms, demographic, and financial information; explain insurance benefits and collect co‑pays.
• Perform vital signs, obtain height, weight, allergy and medication histories, and other screenings.
• Prepare patients for examinations, explain procedures, and answer questions.
• Schedule and reschedule appointments by phone or in person, and transfer patients to appropriate departments.
• Adapt communication style to respect patient privacy and cultural needs.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with regulations.
• Assist with specimen collection and handling as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.
• Related experience in a clinic or medical office setting preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as CHAM, CHAA, or Medical Assistant certification are a plus.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other departments.
• Sound judgment in handling and escalating difficult situations.

Required skills

• Computer data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and keyboard operation.
• Effective verbal and written communication for presenting information to patients and staff.
• Ability to adapt behavior to diverse patient populations.
