About the role

Under the supervision of pathologists, the Pathologist Assistant performs gross examination of surgical specimens and supports the pathology department in all areas except consultation and reporting.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform specimen dissections and provide detailed gross descriptions.
  • Coordinate gross room operations and act as a preceptor for new staff.
  • Assist with orientation of new employees and support departmental goals.

Required profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • No prior work experience required; completion of a two‑year training program acceptable.
  • Ability to manage stress, maintain professionalism, and adhere to confidentiality standards.

Required skills

  • Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and data‑entry software.
  • Computer dexterity for information retrieval and documentation.
  • Technical skill in specimen dissection and gross description.
