Part-Time Payroll Specialist

About the role

Drummond Woodsum is seeking an experienced part‑time Payroll Specialist to manage payroll for approximately 200 employees across eight states. The role requires strong payroll knowledge, independent management of the full payroll cycle, accuracy, sound judgment, and a high level of discretion.

Key responsibilities

• Independently process regular, off‑cycle, and final payrolls in compliance with firm policy and federal, state, and local regulations.
• Review and validate timekeeping records, compensation changes, reimbursements, deductions, taxes and other payroll inputs.
• Maintain accurate payroll records, including earnings, taxes, deductions, contributions and supporting documentation.
• Process, fund and reconcile 401(k), HSA and FSA contributions and loan repayments.
• Coordinate quarter‑end and year‑end payroll processing, including tax filings and W‑2 accuracy.
• Provide payroll and contribution records for audits and compliance requirements.
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions and payroll records while maintaining confidentiality.

Required profile

• At least five years of hands‑on payroll processing experience.
• Demonstrated ability to process multi‑state payroll independently.
• Working knowledge of federal, state and local payroll requirements, wage‑and‑hour laws and year‑end reporting.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organizational skills.
• Professional communication, sound judgment and discretion handling confidential information.

Required skills

• Proficiency with payroll and HRIS platforms.
• Experience using vendor portals and electronic file transfers.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Familiarity with BambooHR (preferred).
