Part-Time News Writer - Weekend and Holiday Mornings

About the role

WBZ NewsRadio, part of iHeartMedia, is hiring a part-time news writer for weekend and holiday morning shifts. The writer gathers and produces morning newscasts, writes on-air news copy and works with editors and newsroom staff.

Key responsibilities

• Gather and produce morning newscasts with fresh news content.
• Write creative, relevant on-air news copy under rolling deadlines.
• Interview newsmakers, select short soundbites and write around them for broadcast.
• Verify facts, edit actualities and produce news content.
• Update social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Threads.
• Take part in required programming, promotions and sales meetings and events.
• Follow station, iHeartMedia, FCC and other federal, state and local laws, including indecency and obscenity policies.

Required profile

• 3+ years of previous newsroom experience.
• Proficiency in writing news copy, fact-checking and research; ability to work under breaking news and deadline pressure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills, with good grammar.
• Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations; 4-year journalism degree preferred.
• Team player who can adapt to schedule changes and fast pace.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office suite and social networking.
• Familiarity with media production and broadcast systems; NexGen, Adobe Audition and NewsBoss are a plus.
