Part-Time Medical Assistant (Phlebotomy & Lab Support)

About the role

Aoncology is hiring a part-time Medical Assistant for its Hematology & Oncology practice in Fredericksburg. The role supports physicians with medical procedures in the office and covers phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. Pay is $18.09-$27.14.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quality control before patient testing, draw blood, run blood work and handle specimens according to lab procedures.
• Prepare blood or bone marrow slides, send specimens to outside labs and maintain test and quality control logs and equipment records.
• Take vital signs, height, weight, pain level and PHQ9 depression screening, place patients in the exam room and document results in the EMR.
• Assist physicians with bone marrow, fine needle aspirate, paracentesis and pelvic exams, and schedule outside tests, referrals and hospital admissions.
• Document testing and treatment in the patient chart, prepare encounter forms and superbills, and show critical blood counts to the physician.
• Maintain supply inventory, troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and perform EKG testing where applicable.
• Keep the laboratory compliant with state and federal regulations, protect patient confidentiality, train new employees and work at any AON location, including occasional overtime.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED; state-required certification or license.
• One year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician's office, including venipuncture.
• Valid driver's license and a vehicle for travel between clinic locations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site environment and to work remotely when required.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Electronic medical record (EMR) use.
• Good command of English; second language is an asset.
