Part-Time Gardener – Independent Contractor

About the role

The Part‑Time Gardener will provide gardening, horticultural, and grounds‑keeping services for The Eden Preserve at Winchester and other client locations. This is a 1099 independent‑contractor position with flexible hours based on seasonal and weather conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain garden beds, lawns, walkways, and agricultural spaces, including planting, watering, weeding, mulching and fertilizing.
• Prune trees and shrubs, support harvesting activities, and monitor plants for pests, disease and irrigation issues.
• Operate and maintain irrigation hoses, watering systems, and basic gardening tools.
• Perform seasonal clean‑up, soil preparation, and assist with composting, seed starting and soil testing.
• Travel between assigned locations in Maryland and Virginia and report any maintenance or property concerns.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between sites.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 30 lb, digging, kneeling and working on uneven outdoor terrain.
• Commitment to sustainable and regenerative gardening practices.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of gardening, landscaping and horticulture.
• Experience with soil preparation, planting, watering, pruning and fertilizing techniques.
• Familiarity with irrigation system maintenance and basic gardening equipment.
