About the role
The New York City Law Department is seeking qualified candidates for permanent Paralegal Aide Level 2 positions in both the Labor & Employment Division (three openings) and the Commercial & Real Estate Litigation Division (one opening). Successful applicants will work under the supervision of senior paralegals, attorneys, and higher‑level staff, providing essential support throughout all phases of litigation.
Key responsibilities
- Organize, index, and manage large volumes of exhibits and case files.
- Prepare trial binders, trial exhibits, and other litigation documents.
- Draft and issue subpoenas, notices of entry, stipulations, and other legal correspondence.
- Assist attorneys with case investigations, including locating witnesses and retrieving documents from federal, state, and city agencies.
- Enter and retrieve data in Law Manager and Relativity, and digest deposition transcripts.
- Serve and file court papers, attend calendar calls, and retrieve court decisions.
- Perform routine legal research and support pre‑trial, trial, and post‑trial activities.
- Handle physical tasks such as lifting heavy files, climbing stairs, and traveling throughout the city using public transportation.
Required profile
- Permanent civil‑service Paralegal Aide title (Level 2).
- Ability to work under supervision while exercising independent initiative and judgment.
- Willingness to perform physically demanding activities and travel across New York City.
Required skills
- Proficiency with Law Manager.
- Proficiency with Relativity.
