OR/Surgery Charge Nurse Supervisor

About the role

The OR/Surgery Charge Nurse supervises patient care within the operating room unit, coordinating nursing interventions, delegating tasks, and ensuring a safe, sterile environment for surgical procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the operating room is clean, sterilized, and stocked with necessary supplies for each surgery.
• Organize, plan, and supervise coordinated patient care, addressing patient concerns before surgery.
• Supervise, develop, and evaluate assigned nurses and technicians, managing staffing and conflict as needed.
• Collaborate with quality, safety, and experience leadership to promote evidence‑based practice and patient safety.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a BSN (required for Ochsner Magnet facilities).
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience or 2 years as an LPN in acute care; 2 years RN experience preferred.
• Current state RN license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong organizational, communication, and time‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in aseptic and sterile techniques.
• Knowledge of patient safety protocols and surgical operation procedures.
• Computer literacy with experience using software and web‑based applications.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
