Ophthalmic Technician 1 – Full Time

About the role

The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute seeks a full‑time Ophthalmic Technician 1 to provide patient‑centric eye care and support clinical providers.

Key responsibilities

• Perform and document comprehensive eye examinations and tests (visual fields, intraocular pressure, pachymetry, lensometry, refraction, motility, etc.) in the EMR system.
• Assist providers with patient work‑up, medication review, eye drop administration, and intravitreal injection preparation.
• Maintain equipment calibration, stock clinical rooms, and travel to satellite eye centers as needed.
• Support virtual care encounters and participate in clinical research.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of relevant ophthalmic experience.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Professional appearance and strong interpersonal communication skills.

Required skills

• BLS certification.
• Proficiency with EMR documentation.
• Microsoft Office competency.
• Hands‑on experience with ocular testing equipment (Goldman tonometer, Tono‑Pen, I‑Care, pachymetry, lensometry, visual field devices).
