Onsite Oncology Phone Triage Nurse

About the role

aoncology is hiring an Onsite Oncology Phone Triage Nurse for its Messino Cancer Centers. The nurse answers incoming calls from patients and home health agencies, assesses the urgency of each call and directs callers to the right person, working alongside the head nurse and physicians. Pay is $30.34-$43.97, with a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

Key responsibilities

• Answer calls from patients and home health agencies, using nursing assessment skills to judge urgency and decide how to resolve the issue or who to direct the call to.
• Keep a daily log of incoming calls and the decisions made about them.
• Pull the patient's chart to accompany messages sent to nurses and doctors.
• Discuss abnormal labs or test results with physicians and nurse practitioners so that further orders can be charted if needed.
• Document the physician's decision on hospice and home health requests, and contact the emergency room when a patient is directed there, giving the diagnosis and a contact number.
• Handle prescription refill requests according to company procedure.
• Be available at any company location and willing to work overtime when given sufficient notice.

Required profile

• Nursing degree and RN license in the state of employment.
• Current CPR and BLS certifications.
• Valid driver's license and a vehicle for travel between clinic locations.
• Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site environment and to work remotely when required.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• EMR software.
• Critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and customer service skills.

What we offer

• Pay of $30.34-$43.97.
• $2,500 sign-on bonus.
• Standard core hours Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with occasional overtime and weekend shifts depending on location.
